Do
you really know why your house is uncomfortable
or expensive to heat and cool? Would
you rather not guess when trying to make
the right decision about which product
to buy, how much insulation you should
have or any of the other potentially
expensive improvements you may need to
make? Your house is a complicated
system that deserves more than guesswork
to make it perform at its energy efficient
peak. You want to do it right,
and now you have help.
The Kansas City
Home Performance Network is a program
in Kansas City designed to help homeowners
make the improvements that will really
work to make their existing homes (whether
old or new) more comfortable with lower
energy bills. An analysis
should be the first step. The analysis
involves real-time testing of the systems
in your home, including such things as
pressure testing the home’s “shell.” The
analyst identifies specific areas of waste
and recommends solutions. Then your installing
contractors should be trained in building
science so that you have the security of
knowing an expert is doing the work. Trained
home energy professionals and contractors,
certified by the Building Performance Institute
(BPI), will help you make the right decisions
about energy improvements designed to make
your home more comfortable and less expensive
to heat and cool.
