2010-2011 Midwest Regional Alternative Fuels Project (MRAFP)
Much success to report in deployment of vehicles and stations plus the addition of two new partners due to changes in project plans. Two new project partners with completed contracts: Kansas Gas Service is upgrading two CNG stations for public access and Pepsico Beverage Corporation/ New Bern Transport is adding three hybrid electric diesel trucks.
A celebration was held in March for 47 school buses and private CNG station that saves Kansas City Kansas Unified School District 500 over $200,000 this year alone with over 140,000 GGE saved per year. Total project expenditures through March 2011 were up from last quarter of $4,832,325 to $14,605,371 with DOE funding up from $2,720,182 to $5,788,168 and partner share of $8,805,004.
For vehicles, 22,013 GGE was used for 198,010 miles. Vehicles ordered total 153 out of 341 at 45%. Vehicles deployed are at 111 up from 44 vehicles now at 33%. Some vehicles (77 or 22%) are in planning phase due to delays in station deployment or decreases in pricing that will allow for purchase of more vehicles.
For stations, 3,950 up from 825 GGE of fuel was used. Stations in design or construction phase total 13 down from 25 out of 32 at 40%, 13 stations are in the site work phase, and 6 stations are operational at 20%. Many obstacles were overcome in planning and design with setbacks in schedules by a month with plans to deploy by end of 12/2011 as scheduled. Delays in station design and development have precipitated delays in vehicle orders.
Budget changes are in progress to remove property values from original budgets. The next budget change includes new partners and project changes. We project the completion of 13 more stations or 60% of the planned stations by the end of third quarter fiscal 2011, 10 more by the end of fourth quarter fiscal 2011, and the final 3 or 100% by the end of first quarter fiscal 2012.
