Project Living Proof
The vision of the project is to restore 2 modest homes in an existing
neighborhood of historic homes that will exhibit simple ecological
approaches of global importance by:
- Showcasing sustainable features that can be
readily applied to any residence in any community
- Utilize environmentally friendly materials &
construction methods to protect health of occupants
- Provide related educational & training programs
for students, professionals & the public.
The process of constructing the demonstration house
will show the ease with which local residents can incorporate similar
products into their own homes. The Project Living Proof will provide
an overall blueprint of varied sustainable features one can add
to increase the sustainability of their home. These homes would
include features such as, energy efficient appliances, natural landscaping,
and reclaimed/reusable products and materials.
More specific examples of sustainable features
envisioned for the house include:
- Energy Star efficient appliances
- Use of water saving devices and technologies
- Performance tested appliances and materials
- Energy resulting from renewable resources
- Efficiently installed and sealed windows and
doors
- Efficient heating and cooling technologies
- Efficient lighting products and day lighting
The use of environmentally friendly products is
another important ecological principle used in the design and construction
of project living proof. By using products that are made of more
renewable materials we are encouraging sustainable construction.
More specific examples of environmentally
friendly materials envisioned for the house include:
| |
| |
- Wood products from sustainable forests
- Products made of renewable resources
- Avoid use of toxic chemicals
- No products that include off gassing compounds
- Products that can be reclaimed after their use
We also envision Project Living Proof homes functioning
as educational tools for the surrounding community. The homes will
be a local resource that will function as a community learning center
as well as provide training related to the green industry. And for
the future, it will also encourage student involvement.
More specific examples of community enrichment envisioned
for the house include:
- Green building classrooms
| |
- Proximity to Discovery Center
- Provide hands on training
- Demonstrate renovation techniques
- Mobilize students for positive environmental change
- Provide housing for higher education students
